Christmas bazaar in Warners End

The church of St Alban at Warners End is having a Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, November 15 from 10am to 2.30pm.

This event is growing in popularity each year as there are stalls of craft work, Christmas presents and decorations and home-made cakes, pickles and jams.

The Methodist Church is joining in with a stall, as their church is still under construction.

There are also stalls of jewellery, DVDs, books and a children’s corner while you browse.

There will be plenty of refreshments if you wish to stay for lunch.

Everything is at very reasonable prices to encourage you to come into this very friendly church.

Quakers choose charity benefactors

Following the success of their week long exhibition on Friends’ work in the First World War, Hemel Hempstead Quakers held an art exhibition in the Meeting House. The invitation to show paintings revealed seven talented artists - each limited to displaying four paintings in the main hall on three consecutive Sundays in October . All were enjoyed very much.

At this time of the year, the group considers Quaker charities for financial support.

Usually, it supports Quaker organisations offering help to the homeless or those involved in opposing the arms trade.

This year, the group chose to help Friends in Moscow and Ulster.

A spokesman for the Friends said: “It is a difficult task to keep up morale in countries where there is conflict and our contributions help to maintain a practical presence and remind Friends they are remembered in their Quaker witness.”

Other charities were Bolivia Link and the Quaker Service Memorial Trust which is involved in the upkeep of the Quaker Arboretum in Staffordshire.

Christian Viewpoint

Being a Waterways Chaplain is an enjoyable part of my job. I meet joggers, cyclists, fishers, dog walkers and all manner of folk. Canal networks were once the internal life blood of our nation, now they’re used mostly for leisure. Christian, how is your faith? Is your relationship with Jesus vibrant, life giving and moving? Is church a place of spiritual renewal, moving worship and strong fellowship. Or perhaps it has become merely leisure or social? Remember what God has done for you in Christ. Contemplate His gift of eternal life. Come alive again, in Him.
