All Saints prepares trees for Christmas

All Saints Church in Berkhamsted will be a hive of activity on Saturday (November 29) when a coffee morning in aid of the forthcoming Christmas Tree Festival will be held from 10am-12 noon and a working party will be hard at work making stands for the 43 Christmas trees which will deck the church from Friday December 12 to Sunday 14. Brilliantly lit, the trees, sponsored by local businesses and decorated by community groups, promise to be quite a spectacle. Proceeds from the event will support the Dacorum Emergency Night Shelter, the Hospice of St Francis and church community projects.

On the Sunday there will be a chance to pause for quiet reflection at a Service of Wholeness and Healing at 4pm.

Advent Sunday marks the beginning of the Church’s Christmas Season.

Christian hymns from around the world sung in Adeyfield

St. Barnabas Church, Adeyfield echoed to the sound of modern songs and hymns used in Christian worship when Alison Adam, a member of the Iona Community, came to lead a singing workshop using songs and hymns from around the world. Some hymns were new words to familiar tunes, others were totally new to the congregation. Some were sung unaccompanied and others accompanied by a small group comprising piano, guitar and flute. Forty people attended the workshop from various churches in the Hemel Hempstead area; it was the second workshop lead by Alison at St. Barnabas. The workshop was followed by a simple lunch typical of the lunches served to the Iona Community’s guests on Iona.

The singing workshop was organised by Rosina Pocock of St. Paul’s, Highfield and Revd. Jenny Hill, vicar of St. Mary’s and St. Paul’s. Thanks go to both of them and to Revd. Richard Graham for the use of St. Barnabas Church. The event was very popular with all of those who attended and may be repeated again in the future.

Christmas bazaar at St Alban

There was a wonderful turn out for the Christmas Bazaar at St. Alban Church, Warners End. The church was really buzzing with people eager to buy all the lovely presents available. The home-made cakes and most of the jams and pickles sold in no time. The very reasonable prices on the knitwear, toys and presents and hand-made jewellery were really appreciated by everyone. The refreshments went down very well. The Methodist Church also had a stall and members were well pleased with the response and very thankful to join in while their church is under construction. Many thanks us offered to all who helped and all who visited to make the event a great success.

Murder mystery evening in Boxmoor

The Brandy Butter Murder will take place in the hall of St John’s on Saturday (November 29). Tickets £10, all proceeds to church funds.
