Estate agent fined for illegal display board

An estate agent has been prosecuted for the illegal display of one of its boards on a telegraph pole

Sterling Estates, which has offices in Hemel Hempstead, Berkhamsted and Tring, was handed an £800 fine and ordered to pay Dacorum Borough Council’s costs of £780 plus a victim surcharge of £80.

The board, on Common Lane, Kings Langley, was not displayed on land or property for sale and it was not apparent to which property the board related.

Philip Stanley, the council’s planning specialist services team leader, said: “Unlawfully sited estate agents’ boards are misleading, unsightly and can be visually distracting to motorists.

“Dacorum Borough Council will not allow companies or individuals to colonise the borough’s public spaces for private gain. This includes estate agents.
