Escape to '˜the jungle', as garden opens for charity

Sue and Alan O’Neill are opening their garden at St Michael’s Croft, on Durrants Lane, as part of the National Gardens Scheme which has raised more than £26 million for nursing and caring charities in the last 10 years.

The garden at St Michaels Croft is a one-acre south-facing garden with a variety of densely planted borders surrounded by mature trees.

There are around 120 different varieties of hostas, and a ‘jungle border’ of tree ferns and bananas.

Sue and Alan also specialise in growing brugmansias or angels trumpets. Further interest is given by a lock gate waterfall, rockery, vegetable patch and greenhouses. There are also working beehives.

There is plenty of cover and seating, easy access for wheelchairs and a warm welcome for dogs on leads.

Tea, coffee and home-made cakes, plants from the garden and home-produced honey will also be for sale.
