Egg-taster Alex’s cracking job

While most of us have been looking forward to the Bank Holidays offered by the Easter period, for one Tring lady the occasion signals an egg-stremely busy time at her job.

But work is hardly a chore for Alex Emerson-White, who lives in the town, as she’s employed as Marks and Spencer’s chief Easter egg taster.

Yep, seriously.

The 27 year old would make any chocoholic jealous, as she estimates she eats her way through almost 6kg of chocolate each week – the equivalent of 130 bars.

Lucky Alex travels the world selecting the perfect ingredients to go into the store’s confectionery, and is already tasting for M&S’ 2016 Easter range.

She said: “It varies, but I can eat up to 50 or 60 pieces of chocolate every week – all adding up to about five kilos.

“I go to the gym before work four times a week to keep fit and healthy. But I can’t complain; I have a brilliant job where I get to eat chocolate all day. My friends are always asking for samples!”

Among the high street retailer’s Easter offerings this year is the ultimate Giant Golden Lattice Easter Egg.

But don’t put all your eggs in one basket, as at £40 this is the most expensive egg M&S has sold. It is hand-crafted by 12 specialist chocolatiers.

Alex added: “We’ve been working on perfecting the egg for years, but the intricate structure and time it takes to make means we can only make so many.

“We’ve made chocoholics’ dreams come true this Easter, so make sure you snap it up.”
