Did you witness fatal road smash?

A road smash which left one man dead and injured others is being investigated by police.

The incident – which took place shortly before 9pm on the A5 at Flamstead on Friday – involved a collision between a westbound Volkswagen Touran and a DAF recovery truck travelling east near the junction with Old Watling Street.

A 34-year-old man from Watford who had been travelling in the back of the Touran was killed at scene.

A 32-year-old man, who was also sat at the back, was taken to Luton and Dunstable Hospital along with the car’s front passenger – a 46-year-old man from Watford.

The driver of the recovery truck, a 64-year-old man from Markyate, was not injured in the crash.

A 28-year-old man from Watford was arrested and questioned on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He has been released on police bail until May 20 while police investigations continue.
