Details of distinctive stolen bike released by police in hope of tracking down culprits

Thieves broke into a garage and made off with a distinctive mountain bike in Little Gaddesden.

Police have released details of the distinctive bicycle in the hope of locating it and tracking down those responsible for the theft.

Between Sunday, May 24 and Sunday, May 31 a garage in Nettleden Road was broken in to and a man’s brown, 2009 Gary Fisher mountain Hoo Koo E bike was taken.

The bike has a bracket on the seat stem for a children’s pull along attachment.

It also has a green Wray Castle sticker on top of the horizontal bar of the frame.

PC Dan Stevens is investigating and said: “The mountain bike stolen is quite distinctive and would hopefully stand out in someone’s mind should they come across it.

“If you have been offered the bike for sale, know of its whereabouts or have any other information that may assist my investigation please contact me as soon as possible.”

• Mark the frame of your bike with your postcode using a UV pen or contact your local cycle shop, as most will mark them for a small cost.

• The best kind of lock is a quality solid steel D-shaped shackle lock. You can buy these at any bike shop.

• Always lock your bike to something solid like a bike rack, lamp-post or railings, preferably in a public area.

• If you have quick release wheels, take off the front wheel and lock it to the frame and back wheel.

• If you have a pump or detachable lights, take them with you when you leave your bike.

• Make sure you have adequate insurance cover for your bike.
