Dad's diagnosis inspires runner

Carl Marzec, aged 36, who will be pounding the streets of London with dozens of other Team Diabetes UK runners on April 24, has also organised a pre-marathon charity event at Hemel Rugby Club on April 2, which includes a disco, buffet and raffle.
Carl decided to take on the 26.2-mile London Marathon after seeing the impact the condition has had on his father and other friends – making him want to embark on a healthy lifestyle and reduce his risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.

“Having completed the 2014 London Marathon, I know exactly how painfully brutal it can be.
“Starting this journey on the larger size of life and with a family history of diabetes, I know myself that, now more than ever, this is my opportunity to make the changes to my lifestyle that I need to ensure good health.
“I also want to be able to highlight the importance of this charity and give something back as a huge thank you for the great work Diabetes UK does.

Diabetes UK eastern fundraiser Teresa Strange said: “Every penny raised will help us to support the 3.5 million people diagnosed with diabetes in the UK so please give generously to back Carl and support his amazing effort.”
