Tributes paid to Hemel ‘true gentleman’ who died after being hit by a car

The family of a man from Hemel Hempstead who died after being hit by a car have paid tribute to him.

Robert Bob Clewley, known as Bob, died on December 2 after being hit by a black Toyota Yaris on the A405 North Orbital Road.

Mr Clewley, who was on foot, died at the scene.

His family said: “Our much-loved dad, Bob, leaves behind a brother, five children, nine grandchildren and a newborn great granddaughter.

“He was a true gentleman and would always help anybody, nothing was too much trouble.

“A London black cab driver for well over 30 years, he was well respected amongst his wide circle of friends. ‘Top of the world Bob’ was a Chelsea fan and kept everyone entertained with his expert analysis and continuous stream of jokes and stories.

“This is a huge loss for us and for everyone that knew him. We’ll never know anyone like him again, RIP Dad .”

The collision happened at around 5.50pm on Friday (December 2). Anyone with information is asked to report it online here or to call 101, quoting 613 of 2 December.
