Pulled-over Mercedes driver arrested after trying to outrun police in Hemel Hempstead

A Mercedes driver who attempted to outrun police after being pulled over in Hemel has been arrested in connection with a burglary.

Officers were called to Tring High Street in the early hours of Wednesday after a business premises was broken into.

They found the front window had been smashed through by a burglar to gain entry.

A silver Mercedes linked to the incident was later spotted in Hemel Hempstead, but refused to stop for police at first.

When the vehicle finally pulled over the driver attempted to run from officers, but was caught.

A 22-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of:

- Failing to stop

- Dangerous driving

- Driving without insurance

- Driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence

- Burglary

- Theft of a motor vehicle

- Possession of class B drugs (cannabis)

He has been bailed until 13 January while enquiries continue.
