Men found hiding behind shed and at Hertfordshire's Warner Brothers Studio arrested in connection with burglaries

Two men who were found by police officers hiding by the Warner Brothers Studio in Hertfordshire, and behind a shed in a private garden, have been arrested.

Hertfordshire Constabulary confirmed that two men were arrested in connection with witness reports of suspicious activity in the Leavesden area at around 10:30pm on January 30.

Police officers were sent to the scene in Dowding Way to investigate claims that two men were trying to break into garages.

The police force revealed that one suspect was found behind a garden shed and officers scaled an eight-foot wall to apprehend him.

Police officers also recovered items believed to be stolen during the pursuit, Hertfordshire Constabulary says.

In connection with the same police response, another man was apprehended on Aerodrome Way, near to the entrance to the Warner Brothers Studio site. Hertfordshire Constabulary said he was arrested in connection with attempted burglaries reported to the force.

It has also been revealed that both suspects were held in police custody overnight and later charged in connection with the alleged attempted break-ins.

Lee Copsey, aged 29, of Maude Crescent, Watford, was charged with attempted burglary other than dwelling with intent to steal. He was conditionally bailed and is scheduled to appear at St Albans Magistrates’ Court on February 17.

Matthew Braybrook, aged 27, of Eastbury Road, Watford, was charged with attempted burglary other than dwelling with intent to steal, and possession of cannabis. He was conditionally bailed and is scheduled to appear at St Albans Magistrates’ Court on February 17.

Hertfordshire Constabulary confirmed that police dogs were also deployed to help track the suspects during the night time operation.

Detective Constable Alex Humphreys, from the Case Investigation Team, said: “This was an excellent result made possible through teamwork across multiple departments. Quick responses, clear communication and determination from all involved meant we were able to identify suspects, recover property and secure charges for our victims.

“It just shows how important it is to call us straight away if you think a crime is in progress; the resident in this instance did absolutely the right thing and thanks to their quick thinking, we have been able to achieve this positive outcome.”
