Couple set up home at Rose and Crown 28 years after staying in the same room at hotel
Jenny Edmunds stayed at the hotel back in 1986 and - now converted into housing - part of the suite she stayed in makes up her living room.
Jenny and husband John, who have lived in Tring for 27 years, have recently moved into the historic Rose and Crown complex after deciding to downsize.
The hotel, which dates back to the 17th century, has been converted into a collection of two and three-bedroom apartments and houses designed for the over 55s.
Jenny and John’s connection to the venue does not end at Jenny’s brief stay - both their daughters had their wedding receptions at the hotel and John, also from South Africa, used to stay there when visiting the area for business.
“We knew the Rose and Crown well before we moved here,” said John. “It’s an iconic local building.
“Before we moved to Tring, many years ago, I used to visit the area on business and would stay at the Rose and Crown overnight and then later I used the hotel for business meetings.”
In another coincidence their new neighbours are also called John and Jenny and the latter was born in South Africa, about 60 miles from the town where John Edmunds grew up.
