Cellar Club could be a sell-out venue in town

The Cellar Club – beneath the Old Town Hall in Hemel Hempstead’s High Street – flung open its doors for the first time since 2002 at an open day on Saturday.

The leisure space has undergone a major programme of refurbishment, including the installation of a new lift to make the club accessible to everyone.

To mark the reopening, families were invited to a day of live music, comedy, childrens show ‘Splosh’ and plenty more.

An animation workshop was also held to allow little ones to try their hand at a range of animation techniques – including recreating the Tour of Britain visit – with the help of experts from Quirky Pictures.

Entertainment for the grown-ups included live folk, classical, blues and rock-influenced music from As The Crow Flies and a comedy set featuring rising name on the scene John Gordillo in the evening.

The open day marks the start of a fantastic autumn programme of theatre, film, music, comedy and family shows at The Old Town Hall, which has stood at the heart of the newly-renovated Old Town since 1852.

The building has been a buzzing arts space since 1978.

The forthcoming season will feature new jazz in The Cellar Club and old favourites such as the Screaming Blue Murder comedy club and Acoustic Café nights.
