The pushbike, which is worth approximately £200, was snatched from the back of Porters on Berkhamsted High Street during a busy weekday evening of service.

CCTV footage, pictured right, shows a person wearing a pair of distinctive trainers and backpack taking the bike at 8.38pm on Wednesday, October 21.

Neil Wornham, Porters’ managing director, said: “It’s very disappointing that something like this could happen in a lovely place like Berkhamsted.

“We’re very sympathetic to our member of staff who was affected, and I know police investigations are ongoing.”

The dedicated member of waiting staff, who did not want to be named, cycles to and from his London home every day to his job at the restaurant, which moved from Covent Garden earlier this year.

The theft left the staff member having to make the journey back to London via train.

A spokesman for Herts Police confirmed an officer was called to the incident and they are currently speaking to potential witnesses.
