Memebers of the 38 Degrees campaign group – which launched a petition against the proposals garnering more than 4,000 signatures – will take part in the protests ahead of a meeting of the Herts highways and waste management cabinet panel.

Herts 38 Degrees member Terry Figg of Stevenage said: “The opposition to cutting these buses, which are a lifeline for so many different people, is impossible to ignore. With less than one per cent of responses to the council consultation showing support for the cuts, the council would be riding roughshod over thousands of people’s needs and wishes if they press ahead with scrapping these buses.”

The possibility of amending the controversial proposals – which would see all funding to services that run after 6.30pm daily and any that run on a Sunday withdrawn – will be discussed from 10am.

More than 4,500 people responded to the 12-week consultation, with just 30 people supporting the cuts to services that run after 6.30pm daily and any that run on a Sunday.
