Athletic family tri, tri again

They were among the 13,000 athletes who took on the 2015 London Triathlon in support of The Douglas Bader Foundation, a charity which helps people affected by limb loss and other disabilities.

Maddie Delderfield, the youngest member of the 
group at just 22, is the team manager for ‘Team Bader’, a team comprising amputee disabled athletes from around the UK.

Maddie’s eldest sister 
Tessa Barfield, her brother-in-law Mark and eldest brother Tim competed in the Olympic Sprint Team event, finishing 27th place out of 122 teams with a time of 1 hour 28 
minutes.

And her fiancée Lloyd James, her elder sister’s 
partner Mark Allison, and her elder brother Luke competed in the Olympic Distance Team Race. Their combined efforts finished with a time of 2 hours 18 minutes, placing them 
seventh out of 407.

Luke was the star 
performer, recording the 
fastest 10k run time of the day in 36 minutes and 46 seconds.

He said: “It was a great run but I was disappointed with my time.

“The course was tight and very crowded making passing extremely difficult.

“Mark Barfield, like many of the athletes, found the very high temperatures difficult to cope with but this 
didn’t prevent him from 
bettering his 2014 time for the 20k race.

“Both Lloyd and Tessa found the swim in London Docks a big challenge as it was ‘cold, murky and tasted awful,’ but they both recorded 
excellent times.”
