From Archie to Zoe: Town’s top tots’ names revealed

Herts County Council’s registration service has revealed the top name for boys in the town last year was Archie, while the most popular for girls was Mia.

Coming second and third in male monikers for the town were Daniel and Harrison – inspired by movie heroes Daniel Craig as James Bond and Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones, perhaps?

Henry, Jack, Luke, Nathan, Oliver, Riley and Samuel were also very popular for bouncing boys among Hemel Hempstead parents in 2014.

Mums and dads of little girls seemed to hark back to more old-fashioned, but timeless names with Elsie, Darcy and Rosie appearing in the most popular list.

Also in the female top 10 were Abigail, Emily, Poppy, Sophie and Zoe.

Across the whole of Hertfordshire, the number one most popular names for boys and girls were strikingly similar, with Oliver and Olivia topping each list.

Richard Thake, county cabinet member for the Registration Service, said: “It’s always fascinating to see what names are chosen. In the last year we have seen the revival of some older names such as Elsie for girls and Noah for boys.

“I was also interested to see the name Logan used for both boys and girls.

“Whatever choice parents make, they can celebrate the birth and naming of their child at a Civil Naming Ceremony organised by Hertfordshire’s Registration Service.

“It is an ideal way for parents to formally name their child and welcome them into the family.”
