The annual Christian Capon golf tournament returns to the fairway in Hertfordshire this June, and local cancer charity Lasting Memories is calling for groups of keen golfers to play.

The event - taking place at Whitehill Golf Club in Ware on June 11 - will tee off with bacon rolls and coffee, followed by 18 holes and a meal afterwards.

Money raised from tickets sold online - which are £65 per person - will help those affected by cancer in the local area.

This is the fourth consecutive year the popular event has taken place, starting in 2017 in memory of Christian Capon, who passed away aged 37 due to cancer.

Initially, the event raised money for Cancer Research. Since then all profits have gone directly to Lasting Memories Cancer Trust.

The charity was set up as a tribute by brothers Joe and Luke Capon, along with Christian’s wife Lucy Capon, and it raises funds to help those affected by cancer in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

The charity will put all profits from golf day sales towards either ‘Memorable Days’ or the benevolent fund.

‘Memorable Days’ provide families in need of respite and relief away from the stress of a cancer diagnosis, and the benevolent fund provides assistance to help ease financial stresses that often come with a cancer diagnosis.

Since its launch in 2019, Lasting Memories Cancer Trust has raised almost £15,000 from community fundraising activities which will help those most in need, but it hopes to raise a further £5,000 from the golf day.

Co-founder Luke Capon said: "Four years ago we held our first charity golf day in Christian’s honour and each year it’s been really popular and a fantastic day out.

"This year we’re holding it at Whitehill Golf Club in Ware, Hertfordshire – Christian’s favourite. It’s a lovely challenging course and a friendly welcoming club. We can’t wait to see some new faces at the 2021 event."

The charity is also keen to hear from local organisations who may be keen to sponsor a hole or fleet of golf buggies at the event. Contact [email protected] for more information.
