Call Me Unique scats her way to The Stables

Dr Feelgood are live at The Stables this Thursday evening, not that you’ll be feeling very good if you’ve not already secured your seat – it’s another sell-out show for the Wavendon venue, and not the only one this week.

Former Mott the Hoople front-man Ian Hunter is live at the venue tomorrow night, and tickets for his date have all gone.

It’s a similar situation for funny-fella Chris Ramsey who will be Feeling Lucky on Saturday night.

But despair not, there are still a couple of goodies to indulge in, starting on Friday night with Soul Urban Poet, ready to ply his trade over in Stage 2.

S.U.P has been prolific for a good while, rapping with a passion for the past six years.

Releases have been plentiful too, with Eps, mix-tapes and the debut album, Urban Poetry.

An avid supporter of anti-gun and knife crime, his track It Doesn’t Have To Happen settled on a mix-tape alongside Chipmunk and Adam Deacon.

His last show at the venue was a pleasurable one for all concerned: “...he impressed with his unique style of hip hop delivered with passion and conviction, marking him out as one of the rising stars of his generation,” reckons Alison Young, Head of Programming for the venue.

That last gig was very close to a sell-out. With your help, he could sell-out (in the best possible way) this time.

Tickets are £8 in advance, £10 on the door.

On Stage 2 this Saturday night, the terrifically talented Call Me Unique will hold court.

The Brummie girl with the fab factor is excited by jazz, soul and jazz scat singing and it shines through her material.

Giving as much a nod to Lauren Hill as she does to Ella Fitzgerald, this rising talent is a breath of fresh air – and track The Wife has spent the past couple of weeks holding our ears hostage.

When she was 16 years old, CMU, or Natasha to her pals, was homeless and living in hostels.

What a difference a few years, lots of determination and plenty more talent, makes.

Call Me Unique deserves to be one of the real breakthrough artists of 2013.
