"We have responded to some blatant breaches over the last 12 months, and issued fixed penalty notices where appropriate, and our patrols will continue as lockdown rules remain in place.

“The schools may be returning, but we’re not out of the woods yet, and we’re working with council COVID marshals, environmental health and trading standards officers, patrolling hot spots to encourage people to follow the restrictions, including wear face coverings where needed and not to gather in large numbers.

"It’s not long to wait until we can all enjoy time with friends and family, let’s just get through the next few weeks as lockdown gradually eases, all playing our part and doing the right thing.”

Nationally, 1,068 FPNs have issued under face coverings in a relevant place regulations over the months. The most active police force has been West Mercia, which has issued a quarter of the notices to date - 209 out of 1,068 - for individuals not wearing face coverings.
