The Hemel Hempstead School celebrates A-level results

Students at The Hemel Hempstead School celebrated their A-level results in a socially-distanced and time-staggered event this morning (Thursday).

With the coronavirus pandemic preventing students from sitting exams this year, the results are based on teacher assessment grades which have been standardised.

Now students in England awaiting their exam results can keep their grades in mock exams if they are higher than the calculated grade, with regulator Ofqual asked to determine how and when valid mock results can be used.

A number of students achieved the grades needed for university and apprenticeships.

Headteacher Neil Hassell said: "Every student opening their results today, at The Hemel Hempstead School, across Dacorum, or across the country should be incredibly proud of themselves for the hard work, dedication, resilience and strength of character they have shown in the most extraordinary times.

"So too should the teachers and support staff who have guided, supported and encouraged them through an unprecedented period of change in education.

"We ran a more sombre, socially-distanced and time-staggered event this morning - no hugging, no high-fives and no raucous group photos - but it was still marvelous to celebrate with our wonderful students who are now looking forwards to the best careers, apprenticeships and universities - the culmination of seven years of rigorous study.
