Following an examination year like no other and a week of uncertainty, students at Ashlyns School in Berkhamsted have been celebrating receiving GCSE grades which reflect their hard work.

Students were unable to take their exams this year because of the Covid-19 pandemic with teachers instead predicting how they would have performed.

Headteacher James Shapland said: "This is always one of the most important and delightful days of the academic year, as students reap the rewards of all their hard work and look ahead to the next stage of education, employment and training.

"We are pleased that we have been able to offer students one of their ‘rites of passage’ and issue exam results in person and celebrate with them.

"They have been one of our strongest ever year groups - and they fully deserve these results.

"Before the partial closure of schools, they had already demonstrated a determined, tenacious and focused approach to revision; the maturity with which they have coped with the ever-changing situation and the news on how they would be graded will stand them in good stead for the future.

"We wish them well, and look forward to seeing so many of them return to our 6th Form in September.”
