Upgrades planned at Hemel Hempstead business site including lighting project
A series of upgrades are being created at a business district in Hemel Hempstead.
Dacorum Borough Council has confirmed work on a series of upgrades at the Maylands site have begun.
An improvement scheme is underway to enhance navigation and visibility around the district.
Once completed there will be 122 new street name signs, 11 fingerposts, and two illuminated gateway structures at the A414/Maylands Avenue roundabout.

Dacorum Borough Council is also running a banner campaign to promote the hub. New signage is being installed in response to criticisms of the area’s appearance.
The local authority revealed it received complaints from business leaders regarding inconsistent signage, confusing routes, and a lack of clear identity for the site.
It is hoped that the changes will make it easier for people to visit the venue and get around the district. Dacorum Borough Council is aiming to complete the scheme by autumn of this year.
Herts IQ provided a grant for the scheme and the council also used Government funding to accelerate the project.
Councillor Adrian England, said: “This investment is a clear signal of our commitment to supporting businesses and strengthening Maylands as a thriving employment hub. The new infrastructure will make the area easier to navigate, improve the public realm, and help reinforce Maylands’ identity as a modern, well‑connected place to work and visit. It also supports the ambitions set out in our newly adopted Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan, helping to create safer, more legible routes that encourage sustainable travel and improve everyday journeys for people working in and visiting Maylands.”
Dacorum Borough Council says work on the wayfinding scheme is made in line with its Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP).
Neil Rutledge, chair of Herts IQ, said: “Maylands is a vital employment area for Hertfordshire and effective wayfinding is essential for a site of this scale. This project will improve how people move through and understand the area, creating a clearer sense of place and supporting day to day business activity. Herts IQ is pleased to back an initiative that addresses long standing practical challenges raised by local businesses.”
