Hemel Hempstead MP calls on residents to support local businesses on Small Business Saturday

The Hemel Hempstead MP is calling on local people to back Small Business Saturday by shopping local this weekend.

Small Business Saturday UK is a grassroots, non-commercial campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to 'shop local'.

Sir Mike Penning said: “This year has been unlike any other I can remember and this Christmas, more than usual, we need to do all we can to support our local small shops.

"I would urge everyone to think about buying local before ordering online.

“Our local shops have reopened after the second lockdown and they are dependent on our support to help them recover.

"Not only have they had to close for long periods, they have also had to invest in covid safety measures. Let’s give them the support they need.

“In Westminster, I will continue to make the case to the Chancellor to reform business rates to help shops survive the competition from the large online retail giants.

“Local shops have much to offer. I encourage people to back the Small Business Saturday campaign and shop local this weekend.”
