The leading national guide for recognising the UK’s best pubs has acclaimed the Alford Arms in Dacorum as the best County Dining Pub in Hertfordshire in the 2021 Good Pub Guide.

The Alford Arms, in Frithsden, was recognised by the Good Pub Guide for its fantastic food on offer, saying that 'winners of the Good Pub Guide’s County Dining Pub of the Year are exceptional'.

Boasting a weekly changing menu, plus all options available for those with food intolerances.

The Alford Arms has a weekly changing menu and provides a range of first class, freshly prepared and cooked food, which, where possible, is sourced locally, supporting businesses and the community.

Its drinks list includes local gins, ales and a choice of European wines – all served with a smile and with humour.

The award comes in a year that has seen the UK and hospitality having to deal with the effect of the coronavirus – however the Alford Arms has always focused in ensuring that hospitality still shines through.

Becky Salisbury, co-owner with her husband David, said: “We are made up to win the Good Pub Guide award and whilst we have been fortunate enough to have now won this award 12 times in the 21 years since we opened – this one feels so very special.

"The experienced team, led by Darren Johnston and James Boorn (FOH managers), and Jamie Celnik (head chef) have worked so hard to ensure the customers have loved every visit to our lovely pub and they must take the credit.

“When we first opened the doors, we felt pub food should be as good as any restaurant could offer, but without the drama, fuss and need for it be an ‘occasion’ – it seems as though our customers continue to agree with this.

“We are proud of the fact that many of our suppliers are from the local community, from meat to veg and from beer to gin.

"This award is as much for the great produce they provide as it for the entire team and the customers at the Alford.”

The guide, which contains listings of more than 5,000 of the very best pubs in the UK, is out now.
