Yarn bombers in Hemel Hempstead have created knitted toppers representing children's books and nursery rhymes to celebrate World Book Day

World Book Day is a charity funded by publishers and booksellers in the UK and Ireland, and aims to give every child and young person a book of their own - it falls on the first Thursday in March.

This year, to recognise World Book Day, Yarn Bomb Hemel Hempstead decided to get creative and raise money for BookTrust.

Book Trust transforms lives by getting children and families reading, they are the UK's largest children's reading charity.

Christine Allsopp, founder of Yarn Bomb Hemel Hempstead, said: "This charity is supported by our local libraries in Hemel it is a national charity working with our local authority via children’s centres, schools, libraries and health professionals to reach families who need them the most.

"When you find one of the toppers, please post on the Facebook community pages #yarnbombhh and tag us on Instagram."

The group recently supported the Roald Dahl Charity, the Hemel Hempstead Poppy Appeal, Murphy’s Army and Youth Booth. To make a donation to Yarn Bomb Hemel Hempstead's fundraising page, click here - the total raised is a running total for all of the charities.
