Third win in a row as Comrades stun unbeaten Cockfosters

Josh Chamberlain was available again and replaced Jay Caines, who was injured in the FA Cup win on Saturday, while Frankie Jowle also started as Ed Canham had to sit out the game with suspension.

Berko opened the scoring inside the first 10 minutes when Jude Eboji held off a challenge and laid the ball back to Aaron Nash-Barker, whose low shot from the edge of the penalty area beat Ollie Dunne in the home goal.

Chamberlain was pulling the strings in midfield for Berko and James Baldry looked dangerous when he came forward – with Dunne saving well from one of his headers.

The two combined for the second goal before the half hour mark, with Chamberlain’s corner kick headed in by Baldry.

Berko worked hard in the first half and were generally first to the ball in a game that the referee allowed to be played at a decent tempo. Just before the interval, a shot from Jowle flashed past the post.

Eboji was a constant threat and he hit the side netting and had a penalty appeal turned down when he seemed to be upended in the box, and then flashed a shot over the bar.

A long Lewis Rodrigoe free-kick was met by Eboji who fired in the third goal for the Comrades with quarter of an hour remaining.

Berko were able to bring on three substitutes as they ran out comfortable winners. They kept a clean sheet and for once stopped ex -Hoddesdon striker Ben Andreos scoring.

Berko will be looking to make it four wins on the trot and get revenge for defeat in the Herts Charity Cup when they entertain St Margaretsbury on Saturday.

Canham can return after suspension and striker Bradley O’Donovan may also be fit; however, there are still five more first teamers on the injury list.

Next Tuesday, the Comrades are at home again to Holmer Green.
