Alex, who competes for Dacorum Modern Pentathlon Club in Hemel, and trains for the run leg of the sport with Mike Dunphy’s group, finished the five-event competition, held on Solihull over the weekend, with a total of 1,348 points.

Her points total took her ahead of Georgina Mitchell of Plymouth College, the winner of the age group in the 2015 championships, and who had to settle for second place this year with a total of 1,320.

Alex was second overall in the 200m swim, with a time of 2.15.29, third in the épée fencing event with 18 victories and five defeats and fourth in the showjumping leg in 1.21.00. She was then third in the final run/shoot combined event with a time of 10.43.87, which comprises three laps of 800m, each followed by a set of target shooting with a laser gun.

Alex’s victory moves her up a step on the podium after she won silver in the 2015 championships in the U15 category. Her training has stepped up after she was invited to a training camp in Portugal with the GB U17 squad and she now looks set for selection to the GB squad in the upcoming European championships.

She and her family thanked her coaches at Dacorum MPC and Dacorum & Tring, saying that it “would not have been possible” without them.
