Man uses hammer to attack sport centre’s computer consoles

A man used a hammer to smash up two computers in a sports centre foyer in front of terrified young children and staff.

Police are now appealing for more witnesses following the incident at Hemel Hempstead’s Sportspace at 6.20pm on Saturday (November 14).

The man – who is believed to have lashed out after getting a parking ticket – was between 5ft 9in and 5ft 11in tall, of medium to stocky build with short, light-coloured hair and spoke with an Irish accent.

He was dressed in a dark blue Adidas jacket with white stripes on the sleeves, a white or grey T-shirt, dark blue shorts and white trainers.

The man caused hundreds of pounds’ worth of damage to two car registration touchscreen computers in the foyer of the sports centre on Park Road, which people use to key in their car number plate before using the facilities.

A spokesman for Herts Police said: “There were several staff members and children in the foyer at the time of the incident.

“If anyone has any information, they should call 101 quoting reference D1/15/7473.”
