Just last week, officers from the town renewed their appeal for ‘information and vigilance’ after more fuel tanks were drilled for petrol in the Warners End and Chaulden areas, taking the total number of incidents past the 60 mark since October.

A 39-year-old man from the town was arrested on suspicion of theft from motor vehicles and going equipped to steal in School Row, Chaulden, at 3am this morning. He remains in police custody.

The incident follows cars targeted in Nettlecroft, Horsecroft Road and Alexandra Road in recent weeks, which saw the cruel and costly practice being taken up in the area again after a lull.

Earlier this year, Dacorum’s Chief Insp Glen Channer and fire station commander Bob Jackson held a police briefing warning the criminals behind the attacks that they were playing Russian roulette with their lives.
