Laureate Academy celebrates future growth, new leadership and a ‘Good’ Ofsted report

Bright future ahead as school celebrates a year of success and more to good news come

Laureate Academy, previously locally known as Cavendish School and now part of the Future Trust school academy, has achieved its first ‘Good’ Ofsted rating and was awarded this status in June last year.

The Ofsted inspectors awarded the school ‘Good’ in every area including ‘Quality of Education’, ‘Behaviour and Attitudes’, ‘Personal Development’, ‘Sixth-form Provision’ and ‘Leadership and Management.’ The report praised the school’s ambitious curriculum, noted that bullying is rare and that pupils value how the staff listen to them.

The school, which is set to embark on an ambitious rebuilding project soon, was also praised for its ‘inspiring range of wider personal opportunities available to students’.

It was highlighted that in addition to many sports and performing arts activities, pupils take part in more diverse range of activities such pickleball, robotics, chess and Pride clubs. The inspectors also felt that the school ‘is enhanced with an impressive range of clubs, trips and visits’ with pupils regularly take part in inspiring enrichment days. These days include trips to universities, theatres and art galleries, widening and complementing learning experiences, including recent visits to Cambridge University, the Roman baths, Houses of Parliament and the theatre.

Pupils also have a ‘broadening horizons’ week’, during which they learn more about apprenticeships, financial education and preparation for interviews.

This is an exciting time for Laureate Academy, securing a ‘Good’ Ofsted rating is testament to the fantastic work by the staff, students and families.

Ruthie Jacobs, Principal

She added: “The school is delighted to have achieved this grade and we are all excited about what the future holds as we look to build on the strengths recognised in this report. I am personally excited to be leading Laureate’s future growth. We are now looking ahead to the rebuild and embracing our new facilities, including a new sports hall, design technology and computer facilities and a new sixth form area, which will offer our students even more opportunities to excel and grow with the school.”
