Hemel born singer-songwriter, Oli Simpson, performed at Club Batchwood in St Albans last week to launch his new single, Rise.
Oli’s voice belies his 22 years, and Rise shows off his ability to intertwine old influences with new sounds. The singer has supported Nelly Furtado at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi and performed for Bill Clinton, before being discovered by Dean Jackson of BBC Radio.
An uplifting, soulful ballad, Rise will have resonance with fans of Adele, Amy Winehouse, Sam Smith, Hozier, James Brown and Sam Cooke. Composed, sung and produced by Oli, the song’s haunting, sweeping melody is both original and memorable as it deals with rising above adversity and confronting others’ doubts.
Oli is now busy writing and composing five new tracks with the aim of releasing an EP later this year.
