The annual Steam & Classic Vehicle Rally at Startop Farm, Marsworth, was just one of many outdoor events which were forced to pull the plug because of waterlogged fields and woeful weather a year ago.

But all the familiar treats will be laid on when the show returns on Sunday, in what’s billed as a Father’s Day treat for any machinery-minded man.

The event, which supports a range of local charities, runs from 11am to 5pm, and admission is £4 for adults and £2 for children – but every entry goes into a free prize raffle.

Historic steam engines, agricultural vehicles, classic cars, bikes and trucks will all be lined up to be inspected and coveted, and there’s lots of family fun on offer as well, including face painting, steam engine rides, a bouncy castle and a fairground.

The team from Tring’s fire station will be popping by, emergencies permitting, and also on the bill are dog agility displays and an intriguing game of steam engine musical chairs.

You’ll find the event on the B489 Ivinghoe to Aston Clinton Road, but there’s a free shuttle bus running from outside the Rose & Crown in Tring High Street, leaving on the hour from 11am.
