Young guns flock to the Shendish Manor Junior Open

A field of 33 boys and girls turned out for the fourth annual Shendish Manor Junior Open on a beautifully sunny and warm Halloween day.

After a fierce day’s competition, the winners’ trophy and gross prize went to Harry Gillespie, of Welwyn Garden City GC, with a one over par score of 71.

Second gross place went to Berkhamsted’s Ben Pierleoni with a score of 75 on count-back from third-placed Nicolas Lewis of Bush Hill Park GC.

In the nett competition, prizes are awarded to those who have not won in the gross category, and first prize was scooped by Hartsbourne Country Club representative Aaron Deyong with a score of 58.

Second nett prize went to Jack Rose of Brookmans Park GC with a score of 60, while third nett prize was won by Joseph McCarthy of Shendish Manor GC with a 62.

Nearest to the pin was won by Ishaan Aggarwal of Sandy Lodge GC and the longest drive winner was Callum Jackson of Chesfield Downs GC.

Shendish hotel manager James Barker presented the prizes, while last year’s captain Ivor Gould assisted with the scoring.

Next year’s competition is scheduled for Friday, October 30 2015, and the entry form will be on the Herts Golf Union website as well as the Shendish Manor website.
