Young guns blast their way to four medals at Inter Counties match

A group of 10 Dacorum & Tring AC athletes competed at the U17 Inter Counties match in High Wycombe – winning four medals.

Chenna Okoh was second in the 400m A in a club record of 49.49, while Michael Fryer took silver in the pole vault A with 3.65m and Daniel Hopper won bronze with 6.36m (PB) in the long jump.

Others to compete included Grace Birdseye who was fourth in the 3,000m in 11.40 and seventh in the 1,500m steeplechase in a club record of 6.01; Jackson Cowans, sixth in the 100m hurdles A in a time of 14.47 and fourth in the triple jump A with 12.82; Charlotte Radcliffe, fifth in the triple jump A with a new PB of 10.46; Sebastian Wadlow, fourth in the discus B with 27.79m; Ben Collins, fifth in the 100m B in 11.83; Jerome Lana, sixth in the discus with a PB of 37.04; and Noah Malancinas, sixth in the javelin B with a throw of 30.24m.

Elsewhere, Dacorum & Tring AC youngsters picked up two medals from the Herts County Pentathlon Championships – held concurrently with the club’s own championships – with Tia Stonehouse and Adam Jolly winning bronze in the U13 girls’ and U13 boys’ events.

Tia finished third on 2052 points, which included a win in the high jump, and her points total also secured her the Dacorum & Tring club title.

In second place in the club championship was Katie Webb on 1512 points, followed by Cailin Waddell with 1477 and Megan Sullivan with 1352.

Adam won his bronze medal with some fine displays, including first overall in the 800m.

Finn Wightman, who wasn’t entered in the Herts Championship, took the club title with 1,288 points, followed by Jolly, Ollie Wilkinson, Daniel Stace and Thomas Ashton.

Thomas Fisher was a close fourth in the county championships, on 1488 points, while Josiah Barker took the club title, with Fisher second.

Luke Burford was third and Ed Hopper fourth. Crystal Jugoo and Zoe Williams, meanwhile, won the club U15 and U17 titles.
