The West Herts juniors battle it out in a busy week of fixtures

The U10s were in action at St Albans as they took on Hitchin, Harpenden and Tring.

The West Herts girls lost their fixtures but competed well, with the boys losing two but winning a third convincingly.

The U12 mixed team travelled to Hitchin, but were pitted against boys’ teams from Harpenden, Blueharts and Royston.

West Herts lost their first two games despite a goal from Lucas Allen, while a third game was declared a draw after floodlight failure.

The U16 boys’ team played a friendly against Teddington B, with both teams going into the game on top of their respective divisions.

Play was competitive from the outset, but 30 minutes passed before Teddington took the lead with a low reverse stick shot.

A few minutes later, West Herts won a short corner; Tom Watts’ first shot was saved, but his reverse stick strike from the rebound found the net.

West Herts took more control of the second half, as they rotated their strong and supportive squad of 15 players to wear down Teddingon, and Joe Sambidge capped an outstanding debut in midfield by scoring the goal that earned the home side victory.

Another 35 boys and girls aged from 6 to 15 were involved in this week’s training sessions, held at The New Field in Watford. West Herts are more than happy to welcome new members to join them for the season or for a trial session one Sunday morning.
