Wallis progressed through the Tring mini and junior sections, before stints at Saracens, London Irish and Bracknell prior to returning and finishing his playing career at Tring.

Ward said: “Since beginning the process of looking for a new coach I have had numerous meetings with Giles and I have been left in no doubt of his enthusiasm and suitability for this role.

“His ideas and passion mirror what we want in a coach to take us back into the national leagues.

“Now we have this vital position filled we can start to plan for next season. First on the list is a backs coach, and that process will now start with Giles’ input.”

Posting on the TringRugby website, Ward added: “I am sure that you will all wish to join me in congratulating Giles on his appointment and fully support him throughout the next exciting period in Tring’s rugby future.”

Wallis’ first decision as head coach is to name Nick Radley as the first team skipper for next season; Radley takes over from Mike March who has led the club for the last two campaigns.

Ward said: “The choice of Nick is a natural one because he is one of the first names on the team sheet and there is no more committed man in the Tring team.

“Nick has played at the club all the way through minis, juniors and the senior sides to the first team. Giles’ choice reflects the club’s ambition and passion for next season.

“In appointing Nick we want to thank Mike for his captaincy and leadership in the previous seasons and hope that he will continue to be a major force in our team.

“There will be a players meeting on 30th June at the club where Giles, Nick and I will explain our visions for next season; most important of which is to build a large powerful squad comprising of our first, second and academy teams.”
