TringRugby Academy produce stirring comeback to see off Hitchin

The TringRugby Academy staged an incredible second half fight-back to beat Hitchin 21-17 after trailing 17-0 at the interval.

A strong and physical Hitchin side started the game far better than Tring, who for the second game in a row missed key tackles and struggled to find form in the first half.

The teams ran in with the Hitchin boasting a commanding lead at half-time and it looked as though Tring were heading for a heavy defeat.

However, with 20 minutes to go, Tring finally rallied and stepped up to take control with some fabulous rugby.

Phase after phase of possession saw Alex Nunn and Robbie Johnson cross the line for Tring, with a strong overall pack performance and awesome rolling maul putting the side back in contention.

A great individual try from Danny Peplow continued Tring’s surge for victory, and Dan Sullivan’s kicking in the second half was simply supreme as Hitchin had no answer to the late onslaught.

Man of the Match for Tring for the second game running was Aaron Dutch who made numerous try saving tackles and turnovers.

What started out badly turned into a thrilling game and an unbelievable last 20 minutes for the gutsy Tring side.

It was not such good news for the TringRugby first team, however, as they were beaten 26-23 at home by Barnes in a National League 3 London & SE fixture.
