Top prizes for Dacorum at the Herts Tennis awards

Alfie Rushton won Young Volunteer of the Year, Graham Fish won Coach of the Year, and Langley Tennis Club scooped the coveted Club of the Year award.

Graham is head coach at Leverstock Green Tennis Club where membership is just over 300 people. He has been instrumental in creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere at the club, and his passion for tennis has seen a large number of children progress from the junior programme to become coaches.

Alfie, meanwhile, has offered invaluable help to Leverstock Green Tennis Club and to Herts Tennis in general, including umpiring mini tennis events at the Herts Closed Championships.

He also volunteered his assistance in helping to umpire over two days at the Inter County Lionel Cox event and again at the Torbay Open.

He has encouraged young players by travelling with the mini red team and he has worked at Dacorum Sports Centre with the coaches on taster days, as well as helping to raise money at charity events

At the awards dinner, Alfie was described as a ‘wonderfully helpful charismatic character who typifies what Leverstock stands for.’

The other big winners on the night were Langley Tennis Club, who were described as ‘a vibrant, warm and progressive club.’

Led by head coach Tim Walter, the club runs run junior and adult programmes for members and non-members, offering superb indoor and outdoor facilities to enable play all year round.

They deliver the Herts Inspire Tennis programme and have become the Central Club for the new ‘Cluster Group’ for South West Hertfordshire, headed up by club administrator Sue Picton.

On the night, Langley Tennis Club was summed up as ‘a very good club with excellent and friendly coaches.’
