Sportspace, Dacorum Sports Trust, are the driving force behind the awards and they – in partnership with the Gazette – are calling for you to nominate your local sports heroes.

As well as recognising those that actively participate in local sport, the Dacorum Sports Awards are also an excellent opportunity to reward individuals who work behind the scenes in a coaching, administrative or official role.

Rebecca Dukes, Sportspace sports development manager, said: “We have a huge amount of sporting talent locally and the awards enable us to acknowledge and highlight this.

“After another great summer of sport at the Commonwealth Games, the awards serve as a reminder of the fantastic sporting achievements and opportunities in our borough.

“The annual sports awards help us improve awareness of sport in Dacorum, and encourage more people to get involved and also more active!”

Any awards ceremony is only as good as the quality of nominations so we are calling on clubs, teams and individuals to support the event and send in their nominations.

The judging panel will be made up of local sports representatives from clubs, the Dacorum Sports Network, Herts Sports Partnership and other community partners.

Looking ahead, 2015 is set to be an exciting year for sporting activity in the borough thanks to a Sport England Community Sport Activation Fund grant of £250,000 to Dacorum Borough Council.

This funding will provide a programme of projects aimed at getting the local community more active through sports and physical activity initiatives over the next tree years.

The programme, named Get, Set, Go Dacorum, will be run in partnership with local sports clubs and Sportspace facilities, as well as a range of community partners.

It is due to be launched on September 20.
