This weekend’s fixtures at Berkhamsted & Hemel Hempstead Hockey Club were hugely overshadowed by the news that the husband of one of the club’s players had died in a motorcycle accident on Friday night.

A club statement read: “Many of you will have heard over the weekend that Sarah Filby’s husband Dan died in a motorcycle accident on Friday night.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Sarah, Ronny and Ruby at the devastating loss of such a great husband and father.

“Notwithstanding his support for Sarah playing for our Ladies’ 2s, Dan was also a great supporter of our club and was a regular at many of the clubs social events.

“He was very often one of the first on and the last to get off the dance floor, which on the last occasion involved challenging all-comers to who can do the longest headstand.

“His positive love of life was infectious and he will be missed enormously across the club.”
