Seventh heaven for in-form Berkhamsted hockey sides

A storming weekend for Berkhamsted & Hemel Hempstead Hockey Club saw seven wins and a draw from nine matches on Saturday.

The ladies’ section were particularly successful with four wins out of four, while there were victories for the men’s first, second and fifth teams, as well as a draw for the fourths in their promotion six-pointer.

The only defeated team was the men’s third XI who lost 2-0 in a very tight top of the table game against a strong Broxbourne side.

The ladies’ firsts won 2-1 in a local derby game against Aylesbury as player of the match Emma Potts inspired them to victory.

The ladies’ second team are the only unbeaten team in the club and once again they showed their strength with a 4-0 win against Enigma from Bletchley to stay top of the table.

The ladies’ third XI game was conceded by Welwyn before a ball was pushed, while youngster Lauren Ware got both the goals for the fourths in their 2-0 win at Iver Heath.

The men’s second team had the biggest victory of the weekend with a 7-1 win against bottom of the table Bedford, and the firsts got their promotion challenge back on track with a 5-3 win against Blueharts.

The fifths beat Southgate Tankards 5-1 in a friendly, the fourths drew with MBDA, and the thirds lost 2-0 to top of the table Broxbourne.

On Sunday, the men’s first XI played their EH Vase third round game, suffering a 3-2 loss.
