On Saturday, Hemel Hempstead’s 14-year-old snowboarders Cerys Allen and Max Wittrick, along with 13-year-old skier Josh Yeo and 15-year-old Ben Baker, took second place at the Gangs of Gloucester Freestyle Team Competition at Gloucester Ski and Snowboard Centre.

Showcasing the skills of The Snow Centre’s young athletes, the Hemel team performed tricks in the air and on rails on the competition’s dry slope, qualifying for the finals in first place.

Just missing out on a top finish in the finals, the youngsters proudly took second position overall.

The Snow Centre sponsors a number of talented young skiers and snowboarders, but this is the first time the centre has ever sponsored their team to head off on an away trip.

With snowboard coach Dwayne McConnel and ski coach Nick Lark both delighted with Saturday’s outcome, there are plans for The Snow Centre Team to reveal Hemel Hempstead’s skills up and down the country.

The Snow Centre’s sponsored ski and snowboard team train weekly on Thursday and Friday evenings on the centre’s freestyle parks, which include jumps, boxes and rails for them to perform tricks on.

These sessions are open to everyone and can be booked at www.thesnowcentre.com, but you are required to already be a competent skier or snowboarder before taking part in freestyle sessions.
