It is the first time in several years that this brutally fast seven-aside version of the game has been played at Camelot, made all the more challenging by the cement-like surface and balmy conditions.

Camelot fielded two squads of 12 drawn from the 1st XV and Knights (2nd XV) skippered by Nino Massa and Jon Byrne to play three matches over two seven minute halves. St Albans and Harpenden also brought two very experienced squads each with their own colourful strip for the occasion.

The competition saw plenty of well worked moves, lots of tries and thumping tackles! St Albans eventually emerged as pool winners after defeating Harpenden in the final match of the evening. The Hemels 1s prevailed over the Knights in a hard hitting encounter between the two Camelot sides. Hemel, St Albans and Harpenden will now progress to the semi finals.

Camelot would like to thank all the participating teams and especially the RFU and Referees Society for coordinating the event.

Friday also saw the launch of Camelot’s first crowd-funding initiative in conjunction with the RFU and NatWest to raise money for the clubs ‘Renovate to Motivate’ project with the aim being to raise £4,000 by June 26 to refurbish key areas of the club. Camelot would welcome support from the wider community and provides a range of rewards for those generous enough to donate to the club – visit www.pitchero.com/clubs/camelotrugby.
