Coleman, 27, was found guilty by an Operational Rules Tribunal of breaching the sport’s rules relating to betting after he admitted placing a large number of bets via various betting accounts, including in relation to matches involving teams with which he was registered.

Information provided by the Sports Betting Intelligence Unit within the Gambling Commission stated that these bets included spread betting on specific events; on one occasion Coleman placed a bet on a match in which he played.

Following the announcement from the RFL about Coleman’s ban, Stags CEO and chairman Bob Brown issued the following statement: “The club has been aware since June 2015 that Jy-mel Coleman was being investigated by the RFL concerning betting offences and has co-operated with the RFL in that matter.

“Jy-mel has not been offered a playing contract for the 2016 season and, now that the 2015 season is finished, he has effectively left the club.”
