Reigning champions make a decent start to the new campaign

The Hemel Hempstead Table Tennis League 2014/15 season got under way with champions Crown & Sceptre I facing arch rivals Adeyfield I.

Crown found themselves trailing at 4-0 and 5-2 before grinding out a very creditable 5-5 draw. Akash Shah, playing up from the A team, completed a maximum for Adeyfield.

Crown I then completed 10-0 and 8-2 victories over Northchurch and Crown & Sceptre A, with Marc Lyons claiming a double maximum.

Newly promoted St Michaels have made a solid start with two wins and a draw. They beat Flamstead I 7-3 despite the best efforts of Angela Smith for the losers. They then whitewashed Adeyfield A 10-0 before drawing 5-5 with Crown & Sceptre A, for whom Ken Stonebridge bagged a hat-trick.

Adeyfield I comfortably beat their A team 8-2 with Josh Fox starring for the winners, but Adeyfield A fared much better in a 5-5 draw with Row. Mike Branscombe completed a maximum for Adeyfield.

In Division Two, meanwhile, McAlpines lead the way having played an extra game than most other teams.

They recorded an 8-2 victory over KLCC I, with Xinjun Wang leading the way, and the same player completed another hat-trick in a 7-3 victory versus Adeyfield B.

However, Wang’s efforts were in vain in a 6-4 defeat against Crown & Sceptre B, before the team suffered a further 7-3 loss against Flamstead A.

Crown & Sceptre B got a second win against Flamstead B as they triumphed 8-2, with Dave Easey winning three games.

Flamstead B returned the favour by beating their A team by the same score; Darren Roan leading the way,

Flamstead B lost 8-2 to McAlpines I, with Alex Hamilton and Trevor Leverno achieving maximums.

Crown & Sceptre C managed a 5-5 draw with Flamstead A, and despite Arun Ganatra winning his three games for Adeyfield B, his side lost 6-4 to KLCC I.

In Division Three, St Georges I have made a superb start to the new season with three wins out of three.

First up was a 10-0 victory against KLCC A, followed up by a 9-1 win over their fledgling A team, and finally an 8-2 triumph over Northchurch A. Gerry Evans, Josh Figg, Chris Ward and Tim Boyall all managed maximums.

Adeyfield C are also unbeaten after recording back-to-back 9-1 wins against Highfield and St Georges A, with Trevor McFarlane achieving a double maximum.

Northchurch A won 7-3 versus Crown & Sceptre D and 6-4 against KLCC A – Bronwen Watson gaining a double maximum.

They also lost 7-3 to Flamstead C for whom Tony Bourke was unbeaten.

Lastly, Highfield had an 8-2 victory over Crown & Sceptre D, with Colin Parslow winning his three games.
