Records smashed in a stunning year for the D&T athletes

Dacorum & Tring AC athletes set a whopping 42 new club records in 2014, making this the ‘most record-breaking season ever,’ according to club statistician Paul Burton.

The ladies’ teams broke 22 records in all, with 12 women setting all-time bests in 2014.

U17 athlete Fiona McQuire set four new club records, making her the top record breaker on the ladies’ side.

Phillipa Lowe set three new records for the senior women and equalled one, while Jessica O’Sullivan set three new U17 women’s records.

U15 Mia O’Connell set two records and Catherine Davies also set two new club bests.

In total, 11 of the 22 new women’s records set were for field events, with nine set on the track or road, and two for multi-events.

On the men’s side, 20 club records were set by nine men and boys. Chenna Okoh’s five records for the U15 boys must surely be a record in themselves, especially when added to his contribution to the U15 boys’ record-breaking 47.1 in the 4 x 100m relay.

U13 Josiah Barker also collected a host of new records, setting club bests in four events and he was also a member of the record-setting 4 x 100m team.

Dom Ashwell set two records in the U17 men’s category, while Richard Emptage broke long-standing records in two V50 men’s events.

Of the men’s and boys’ records, 13 were set on the track, with six set in field events and one in the multi-events.

Okoh also won silver at English Schools Championships in 300, and won the title for the event at the Herts Schools Championships, the U15 England Athletics Championships and the South of England (SEAA) Championships – where he brooking a long-standing record over the distance.

Ashwell, meanwhile, won the Herts Schools title over 100m in the U17 age group, breaking the record for the distance that had stood for 31 years – a feat achieve when he was still just 14.

Laurette Wenborn, the club record holder for the U15 girls pentathlon, also won a gold medal at the English Schools multi event championship.
