Plenty of medals for the SSKI hot-shots at Legend Championships

Seishinkai Shotokan Karate won a fistful of medals at the prestigious Legend Open Karate Championships

The event had 860 entrants and was the biggest Legend Championships so far in its very long history.

Although SSKI didn’t take quite as many medals as last year – probably down to the sheer size of the event – it was still a very successful outing for the Dacorum clubs.

The ladies’ team kata of Cristy Nash, Vicky Adams and Stacey Barton took the gold medal in style, just pipping the Belgian team and another good team from England in the final.

Adam Cockfield narrowly missed out on gold medals in the men’s black-belt kata and kumite events, as well as coming a second in the kata and third in the kumite.

Adams finished third in the ladies’ black-belt kumite, and Nash took third in the female cadet kumite (16/17yrs).

Finally, in the mixed team kumite event, SSKI took second and third places. The silver was taken by Matthew Cooper, Adams and James Baldwin, with the bronze going to Tom Carson, Nash and Gary Page.

The SSKI group looked very professional in their new tracksuit tops which were sponsored by Amicus.

Chief instructor Malcolm Phipps 8th Dan was extremely pleased with the club’s success, saying: “What an amazing achievement from this Dacorum group.”
