It was a successful day for Redbourn-based St Albans and District Gymnastics Club as nine gymnasts took part in the Hertfordshire level 6 and 7 competitions.

The level 7 competition takes place over two pieces of apparatus – the floor and the vault – and the morning started with the club’s youngest representative, Isabella T, impressing in the in the age 7/8 category.

In the age 9/10 category, Katie delivered a very well-executed floor routine and achieved a score of 10.3, putting her in equal fourth place on that apparatus.

The level 6 county championships took place in the afternoon and SAADI had six gymnasts competing in two different age groups across all four pieces of apparatus.

First it was the turn of the age 9/10 gymnasts; Kate, Ellie and Hannah. Kate had a good competition, finishing with the highest all around total of the SAADI gymnasts in this group,.

Her highest placing on an individual apparatus came on the beam where she completed a very confident routine and stuck all of her moves.

Ellie also did very well, finishing just 0.1 point behind Kate overall and achieving SAADI’s best bars score for the round; she also completed a very impressive front somersault dismount off the beam.

Hannah achieved the highest scores on vault and floor for SAADI, with an impressive floor routine scoring 10.6.

In the final round, four SAADI gymnasts took part in the age 11/12 contest. Natasha Lane had a brilliant competition and was crowned the Hertfordshire Level 6 county champion for this age group, having achieved the highest all around total score of 44.3.

On the way to the title she also picked up several individual apparatus awards; gold on beam and vault, silver on bars and bronze on floor.

The other SAADI gymnasts were also on fine form, with Isabella F taking bronze on vault and Juliet bronze on beam. Lucy did very well in her first level 6 competition, showing off some interesting beam choreography and earning a very good fifth place on bars.
