A pair of talented siblings are celebrating success both on the basketball court and in the swimming pool.
Basketball player Loren Christie, 14, has been selected for the women’s U15 England squad, while her brother Jack was part of a bronze medal-winning relay team at the regional swimming championships.
Last September, Loren’s basketball coach at John F Kennedy School gave her name to the Oaklands U14 team manager as they were forming a new side.
Loren had never before played basketball outside of school, but she has since gone from strength to strength; in October she was invited to attend the regional programme, and then in December was invited onto the national development programme.
She was selected to represent Herts in the East Regional Inter County Championships, after which she was chosen for the East Regional Squad after wowing the selectors.
However, the icing on the cake was soon to follow as Loren was called-up to the England squad to represent the country at the European Invitational Tournament in Copenhagen this month.
Meanwhile, there was further good news for the Christie family as Jack – who represents Hemel Hempstead Swimming Club – recently won bronze in the men’s freestyle 4x100 relay at the regional championships, with the possibility of going on to compete at the English nationals.
Jack, also a pupil at JFK School, has been selected for the Great Britain swimming squad to take part in the International Catholic Student Games in Malta in July
